Countdown Timer

The Brief (Self initiated): Create an awareness and urgency around the deadline of last dates of posting.

UI: Explore ideas on how to make the homepage of anpost.com look festive, fun and visually appealing to users.

As a user: I want to send gifts and cards to my friends and family at home and abroad in time for Christmas.

Design Research

Design Process

I started with a design workshop to brainstorm ideas and see how I could bring this creative to life. I included the front end developer so I could assess the feasibility of these ideas and understand the constraints. I initially explored variations of the countdown in the main banner, but the business decided to prioritise this space for the Christmas campaign creative and drive stamp sales, so I moved it below the track and trace form instead.

User Testing

One of the challenges with the snowflake design under the banner was how it constrained for different device sizes, particularly on mobile. I tested it on the most common screen sizes and device types, and based on this research, chose to hide them altogether on mobile to avoid cluttering the interface and distracting from its main function; to provide information to the user.

Christmas icons & Design system

I added the Christmas icons and countdown module to the design pattern library, and worked with the back end developer to make the countdown configurable on our CMS, Kentico so content owners could implement it, but chose to switch off the snowflakes and country dropdown list to suit other use cases ie. Black Friday sales, SME product offers and other campaigns. We also added subtle snowfall through CSS for desktop which was timed to when a user landed on the homepage.

As 55% of site sessions on anpost.com and 20%-25% of homepages visits are to use track and trace, it was important to roll out the festive track and trace icon across the tracking results page for impact and consistency.

Identifying the problem

The ordering of the stamps displayed on this page could be improved, its currently paginated, but the order in which they appear is not clear. The user should be allowed sort by most popular, latest or price based on the data we have available. Solution to be determined.

Issues: It is unclear how many pages there are in total. We see 1-4 but its not clear whether 4 is the last page or more come after that. #1: Visibility of system status. These stamps are automatically filtered from newest to oldest
